The Person Centred Approach
I am a person centred counsellor who works on the premise that each individual has the potential to be the best version of themselves. However, factors such as parental or societal expectations and other personal experiences can get in the way, affecting the way we see ourselves and therefore impact our ability to achieve our true potential. In person centred counselling, the client is the expert of their own lives. Sessions are led by them with the counsellor being there alongside them to facilitate and offer them support as they work through their issues. It is a collaborative process which requires both the client and counsellor to be present in the room and work together, whilst also building a positive working relationship over time.

Counselling is an opportunity for you to talk, without judgement about whatever is going on with you without the need to filter or censor what you say which can be a freeing experience. There is also something liberating about being in the presence of a person how accepts you as you are, rather than who they want/expect you to be. Counselling also an opportunity or you to feel heard and understood in a way you may not have in your day-to-day life. As a practitioner I truly attend to my clients, by not only hearing what has been said verbally but also what they may be communicating non-verbally (the unspoken) and help bring this into their awareness. Having a safe space, you can go to regularly to share your thoughts and feelings uninterrupted can give you a better insight into yourself as an individual and allow you to see your issues in a way you may not have considered before.
How can counselling help
What to expect…
At the start of our work together, usually during a free initial consultation/assessment, we will explore why you have come to therapy and what you wish to gain from it. I will also answer any questions you may have. The consultation will take place on the phone and should last around 20 minutes. It may be the case that you aren’t entirely sure to begin with, but you might get a better idea as our work together progresses. The initial consultation is also an opportunity to establish whether I would be the right fit for you as a counsellor. If you are happy to proceed, then we will establish a regular time and day for sessions to take place. As sessions are client-led, there is no agenda or set structure. We will work with whatever you wish to explore/bring into the room, at a pace in which you are comfortable with. I will never force you to explore something in which you not yet ready to.
